The recommended graphic files types for image display are:
- GIF - Generally used for line art and graphic files (as opposed to photographic images).
- JPG - Best choice (smallest file) for photographic images.
- PNG - Less common than GIF or JPG. This type has some attributes that make it preferable to other browser-friendly file types but it is not yet a widely used standard and images of this type may not be available.
Other graphic file types may be selected for image display but system performance and output results in AMS360 cannot be predicted. |
As a general rule, take the inches and multiply by the dpi to get the number of recommended pixels. For good print quality you should use 300 dpi. For images you can use a higher dpi, but the file is larger, prints slower, and uses more ink.
Using the Display Properties for your monitor (right-click on a blank area of the desktop and select properties from the menu that appears) you can set the dpi (dot per inch) in the Settings tab, using the Advanced button. If you know this number (dpi) when you are in Explorer looking at JPG files, it will show the dimensions. You can take the dimensions and divide by the dpi to get the inches.
- 2.5 inches by 1.6 inches at 72 dpi (monitor setting) is 180 by 120 pixels
- 2.5 inches by 1.6 inches at 90 dpi (monitor setting) is 240 by 160 pixels
