Workflow: Copying a Journal Entry
If you have previously posted a journal entry for a particular purpose and find that you need to record another journal entry involving the same purpose and general ledger accounts, it may save time to use the Copy Journal Entry feature.
This feature uses the posted journal entry as a template, defaulting the same general ledger accounts, amounts and descriptions as the prior journal entry while allowing you to make desired changes.
- Open the center containing the desired journal entry and open the Register view.
- Locate the journal entry you want to copy and click the Copy action button. Copying is not an available function in all types of journal entries. The Copy action appears only when a journal entry can be copied.
- The Journal Entry form displays the information from the previously posted journal entry defaulted into the fields.
- Edit the information including the division, journal date, journal memo, and voucher detail rows. You can also add New voucher rows or Delete rows.
- Click Post.
If the journal entry you select as a template originated from a process involving statements or invoices, such as Pay Account Current or Pay Commission Statement, the copy process excludes such voucher lines.
