Closing a Claim

It is important that you keep your claim statuses updated. When you have satisfied all the claimants associated with a specific loss, you should close the claim.

You can close a Personal or Commercial Lines claim from the Claims page after meeting the prerequisite requirements, and changing the Claim Status to C(closed).

This status appears on the Client Details page and on Losses Report.

Prerequisites

You cannot close a claim until you have:

  • settled with, or "closed out" all claimants by changing the Claim Status for each claimant to "closed;"

  • added complete payment and reserve information for each claimant.

Before closing a claim, change the Claim Status for the claim to C(losed) and enter a Closed Date for the claim.

Close a claim

  1. Look up and load the client..
  2. Click Claims on the Client Primary Navigation. A list of the client's claims appears.
  3. From the list, double click the claim you want to close. The Claims page appears.
  4. In the Basic Loss section, change the Status of Claim field to C(losed.)
  5. The bottom of the Claims page shows the additional grids available on the page. Click the Expand button for the sections you need to complete to access the grid.

    You cannot close a claim until you complete two key sections, Claimants and Settlement, on the Claims page.

Claimants

Change each claimant's Claim Status to Closed as you settle with each one. You cannot close a claim if any claimant's Claim Status is Open.

Settlement

Make sure you have added complete payment and reserve amount information. Then complete the Closed Date field.

  1. Update the Contact/Notes section each time there is activity that affects the claim. For more information about completing the sections on the page, refer to the Claims Page.
  2. After you have completed the information in each section, click Save.
  3. When you have finished your updates and completed the Closed Date field, return to the top of the page; then click Save or press ALT+S.
