Workflow: Use the Event Log and Event Viewer
The Event Log and Event Viewer are tools provided with Windows to record and display certain workstation events. Some events are informational, such as when a program started and stopped, while other events can indicate an important hardware or software condition that requires reporting and possible maintenance.
Every Windows workstation has Application, Security, and System event logs for recording Windows events. Installing AMS360 creates another log to record AMS360 events. The Event Viewer is used to view and manage the contents recorded by these event logs.

You can view the contents of an Event Log using the Windows Control Panel. Consult the online Help for Windows (available from the Windows Start menu) to learn how to access the Control Panel, Administrative Tools module.
- Click Start.
- Right-click Computer and click Manage.
- To see the different types of Event Views, click Event Viewer under Computer Management > System Tool a log, expand Applications and Services Logs and click an item on the left-hand side (console tree) of the Event Viewer window. The recorded events from the selected to log appear on the right.
- Double-click any event in the right-hand pane of the viewer to open the Event Properties window to display detailed information about the event.
- To email the event information to Vertafore Support for review, see Workflow: Emailing an Event Log.

If it becomes necessary to clear the entries in the AMS360 Event Log, it is recommended that the contents of the event log be saved before the log is cleared.

- Click the AMS360 Event Log on the left-hand side (console tree) of the Event Viewer window. The event log is highlighted in the left pane and the recorded event entries display in the right-hand pane.
- On the Event Viewer menu bar, select Action> Save Log File As... from the menu. A Save window opens.
- Save the log file to My Documents. For the file name use a portion of your agency name, followed by the month and day (no punctuation). Example: Smith1015.

- On the Event Viewer menu, select Clear All Events.
- A message appears, asking if you want to save the events. Click No.
You can click Yes for an opportunity to save the event log before clearing, but the Save procedure described above is a safer method, and avoids the undesired possibility of clicking No on this window and losing the event log data with no saved copy. - Close the Event Viewer window.
