Request Letter of Certification

When an individual licensee or agency applies for a non-resident license, some states require verification of an active and "clear" resident state license.

Use the Request Letter of Certification service to generate either a state letter of certification or electronic confirmation from the national Producer Database (PDB) that verifies the good standing of an individual licensee's or agency's resident state license.

Use the following steps:

Generate Verification of an Individual Licensee's Resident State License

Getting Started

  1. In the AgencyEDGE navigation bar, click the Transactions link. The Transaction List will open in the Home page.
  2. In the State Service Request group, click the Request Letter of Certification - Individual link. The Individual Letter of Certification page will open.
  3. Required. From the Resident State dropdown menu, select the name of the individual licensee's resident license state.
  1. Required. In the Type of Certification field, click to select the State radio button.
  2. If desired, from the Cost Center dropdown menu, select a cost center to which to assign the fees associated with the transaction.
  3. Required. In the States section, click to checkmark the checkbox corresponding to one or multiple states to which you want to submit a letter of certification.
  4. Required. In the SSN fields, enter the full Social Security Numbers of one or multiple individuals with resident state licenses in the selected resident state for whom you want to generate a letter of certification to the selected state(s).
  5. If prompted, choose a mailing destination for the letter of certification. To send the letter of certification to the selected producer's mailing address on file with the selected issuing state, click to select the Send letter(s) to respective mailing address radio button, or to send the letter(s) of certification to a different mailing address, click to select the Send letter(s) to address below radio button, and then enter the address information in the Name, Line One Address, Line Two Address, City, State, Province, Country, and Postal Code fields.
  6. If prompted, click to checkmark the checkbox affirming that you have read and agree to the terms and conditions of the NIPR PDB Acknowledgment.
  7. Click the Submit button. The Confirmation page will open, and the requested letter of certification will open in a separate browser window. Multiple requested letters will be included one after another in the same window.
  8. To print the letter, click the Print button in the browser window toolbar.
  9. When you are finished, close the browser window containing the letter.
  10. Click the Back to Letter of Certification Request button to open the Request Letter of Certification - Individual page. Or, click the Transactions link in the navigation bar or the breadcrumbs. The Transactions List will open.

  3. Required. In the States section, click to checkmark the checkbox corresponding to one or multiple states to which you want to submit a PDB verification.
  4. Required. In the License Number field, enter the license number of the resident state license of the individual licensee for whom you want to generate a PDB verification to the selected state(s).
  5. Required. In the Last Name field, enter the last name of the individual licensee for whom you want to generate a PDB verification to the selected state(s).
  6. If prompted, click to checkmark the checkbox affirming that you have read and agree to the terms and conditions of the NIPR PDB Acknowledgment.
  7. Click the Continue button. The page will redraw, displaying the name of the individual licensee as a colored hyperlink, the licensee's date of birth, resident state license number, and resident state name.
  8. Verify that the information is correct. Click the Revise Criteria button to change any data entry.
  9. When you are ready to generate the PDB verification, click the individual licensee's Name link once. The requested PDB verification will open in the same browser window. Multiple requested PDB verifications will be included one after another in the same window.
  10. To print the letter, click the Print button at the bottom of the page.
  11. Click the Transactions link in the navigation bar or the breadcrumbs. The Transactions List will open.

Generate Verification of an Agency's Resident State License

  1. In the AgencyEDGE navigation bar, click the Transactions link. The Transaction List will open in the Home page.
  2. On the Service Request Menu, click the Request Letter of Certification Firm link.In the State Service Request group, click the Request Letter of Certification - Firm link. The Firm Letter of Certification page will open.
  3. From the Resident State dropdown menu, select the name of the agency's resident license state.
  4. In the Type of Certification field, choose the type of resident state licensure verification you want to generate. Choose from among the following:
  1. Required. In the Type of Certification field, click to select the State radio button.
  2. If desired, from the Cost Center dropdown menu, select a cost center to which to assign the fees associated with the transaction.
  3. Required. In the States section, click to checkmark the checkbox corresponding to one or multiple states to which you want to submit a letter of certification.
  4. Required. In the EIN fields, enter the federal Employer Identification Number of one or multiple individuals with resident state licenses in the selected resident state for whom you want to generate a letter of certification to the selected state(s).
  5. If prompted, choose a mailing destination for the letter of certification. To send the letter of certification to the selected firm producer's mailing address on file with the selected issuing state, click to select the Send letter(s) to respective mailing address radio button, or to send the letter(s) of certification to a different mailing address, click to select the Send letter(s) to address below radio button, and then enter the address information in the Name, Line One Address, Line Two Address, City, State, Province, Country, and Postal Code fields.
  6. Click the Submit button. The Confirmation page will open, and the requested letter of certification will open in a separate browser window. Multiple requested letters will be included one after another in the same window.
  7. To print the letter, click the Print button in the browser window toolbar.
  8. When you are finished, close the browser window containing the letter.

  10. Click the Back to Letter of Certification Request button to open the Request Letter of Certification - Individual page. Or, click the Transactions link in the navigation bar or the breadcrumbs. The Transactions List will open.

  6. Click the Submit button. The Agency Licensee PDB Letter Of Certification page will open, displaying the name of the agency as a red hyperlink, the agency's resident state license number, and resident state name.
  7. Verify that the information is correct. Click the Revise Criteria button to change any data entry.
  8. When you are ready to generate the PDB verification, click the agency's Name link once. The requested PDB verification will open in the same browser window. Multiple requested PDB verifications will be included one after another in the same window.
  9. To print the letter, click the Print button at the bottom of the page.
  10. Click the Transactions link in the navigation bar or the breadcrumbs. The Transactions List will open.

To check the ongoing processing status of one or multiple letter of certification transactions, use the Letter of Certification Activity service.

If your browser has been set to suppress popup windows, you will have to change the browser security settings temporarily to allow the browser window containing a state letter of certification to open.

Depending on the residence state of the individual licensee or agency, you can request your choice of a state letter of certification or a PDB certification. In others, you can request only one or the other.

Click the Revise Criteria button to update data entries related to your request.

A letter of certification may require several minutes to generate, so please be patient and do not close your browser window or end the session.
