Resident States

A resident insurance license allows a producer to solicit, quote, negotiate or write insurance in a state in the producer's state of residency. A producer must carry an active resident license in his home state prior to obtaining a non-resident license in any other state.

Use the Resident States data section of a producer record to track information concerning a producer's state(s) of residency.

To review a producer's Resident States, click the Resident States link in the Quick Links box of a producer record that is open in the Review/Update Producer page.

The Resident States data section includes the following fields and controls:

  • State: For each resident state listed, displays its name.

  • Cert Effective Date: For each resident state listed, displays the date on which the selected producer earned securities or professional designation certification in that state.

  • Cert Expiration Date: For each resident state listed, displays the date on which the selected producer's securities or professional designation certification in that state expired or will expire.

  • License Expiration Date: For each resident state listed, displays the date on which the selected producer's resident insurance license in that state expired or will expire.

  • Add/Update/Delete Resident States: Click to open the Maintain Resident States page, where you can manually maintain a resident states information.

Notes

Note: Based on your company's business rules, the system may be Vertafore-configured to require all producer records to include at least one resident state. With this configuration in force, a producer record deficient of resident state  information is considered "incomplete," and an appointment or termination request may not be submitted for the producer until the deficiency is corrected. The producer record also may be tagged as "incomplete" in the Outbound Data Feed or Producer Data Web Service and communicate this status to your company's internal systems. For more information, see Configuration Options.

Note: By default, if an automated data reconciliation of a producer record (e.g., Quick Sync Producer, Scheduled Sync, etc.) discovers all of the producer's resident licenses to be inactive, the system automatically will inactivate all related resident state information. However, Vertafore can set a configuration option to preserve at least one resident state, even if the related resident license is discovered to be inactive. For more information, see Configuration Options.

Note: The system will not automatically populate nor update the Cert Effective Date, Cert Expiration Date, or License Expiration Date fields.

Tips

When creating a new producer record as part of an automated data reconciliation operation (e.g., Quick Add Producer, Quick Load Producers, etc.), the system automatically will update resident state information on the record, based on resident license information obtained from the national PDB report.
